Where should you sit at St James' Park?
St James' Park is lopsided: two huge cantilevered stands on the north and west sides tower over the smaller East Stand, which is hemmed in by listed buildings. The Gallowgate End behind the south goal is the traditional home end. Away fans are placed high up at the top of the Sir John Hall Stand, so bring a good pair of legs for the climb.
Best seats for views
- Milburn Stand lower and upper tiers near halfway
- East Stand central blocks, close to the touchline
Best seats for atmosphere
- Gallowgate End lower tier
- Corner between the Gallowgate and East Stand
Where do away fans sit?
Away supporters are in the top tier on the far side of the Sir John Hall Stand (Leazes End), reached through turnstiles 91 to 94 and 14 flights of stairs (about 140 steps); a lift is available. The view is distant but complete. The league allocation is up to 3,000.
| Gallowgate End | South | Home end behind the south goal; lower tier is the loudest part of the ground. |
| Sir John Hall Stand | North | Also called the Leazes End. Two large tiers; the away section is at the very top (Level 7). |
| Milburn Stand | West | Main stand with the dugouts, tunnel and media facilities. Upper tier gives sweeping views over the city. |
| East Stand | East | Smaller single-tier stand along Leazes Terrace, close to the pitch. |
